Interesting initiative. Fight for animals wherever they are, stop exploiting them and learn to live with them.

I struggle every day with this very notion how we can be so cruel to farm animals and love our pets like family.

Diana,
FARM is an animal rights organization. We believe in the inherent self-worth of animals, as well as environmental protection and enhanced public health. We work to end the use of animals for food through public education and grassroots activism.

Your concern for animals is fine but you people need to know whats going on in the agricultrual business. Plow jockeys as greedy as they are are destroying both land quality and water quality with practices that the EPA is even turning their heads! Chemicals utilized by ag practices are causing mutations in wild life and ground water quality (which I think is kind of nice to have around) is deteriorating more every day. I've tried but need help.

Some may revert to eating meat because its difficult and expensive to find the non-meat alternative. Personally, I like Morningstar, Quorn and Boca products however many stores are removing them from the shelves to putting them in such obscure placing in the stores, you can't find them. In restaraunts if you ask if the dish is made with chicken or beef broth because you're a vegetarian, they lie to you just to sell the product. So despite people's good intentions, they are thwarted on every avenue with because of others ignorance and lack of compassion; so they give up because they're tired of fighting with the rest of the world.
No worries here though...I'm holding fast and have been a minimal pescatarian/vegetarian for almost 10 years and have advocated for humane and ethical treatment of animals for as long as I can remember.

Hi Casey,

While we understand that the concept of giving away $1.00 to each viewer sounds costly, it's actually quite cheap when you break it down in terms of the number of people effected. Remember, over 50% of viewers make changes to their diet -- that's a significant improvement over most other activism.

You're right that it's not the most effective way to get people to watch videos -- but Pay-Per-View is higher impact experience than advertising can provide.

I would urge you to look at the *actual* audience of different forms of outreach, not just the raw number of people reached. Every single person who participates in PPV: 1. watches the entire video with audio 2. is "debriefed" in person by a volunteer or coordinator 3. has the opportunity to ask questions 4. provides their email address for follow-up 5. is asked to pledge to reduce animal product consumption. This whole package is the most comprehensive and quality educational experience that can be packed into 7 or 8 minutes.

I won't get into the particular costs at this time, but our Pay-Per-View program is among the most cost efficient forms of outreach available. FARM is known for running on a shoestring budget and Pay-Per-View is not a diversion from that. Plus, we reach people who would otherwise never choose to click a link on Facebook, finish an entire video, read a leaflet, or discuss these issues openly.

We buy advertising, we leaflet, and we hold feed-ins -- all are effective, reach different types of people, and are important tools for the movement. But PPV provides an experience unlike any other with astounding results. If you should have any other questions (or would like to give PPV a shot in your community) please email me at AlexF@farmusa.org.

Best,

FARM I think its great that they are trying to reach more people however, this is not the most cost effective way to get people to watch videos.

For only 12-15 cents per click on Facebook a friend has got over 1 million video views and about 500,000 likes from teenagers. His ads are free unless they choose to click on it (without bribes), targets only 14-16 yr olds (best age bracket, due to limited resources), they watch it conveniently at home, can easily "like" and share it with friends to get more free views. He has had tons of going veg comments too.

So I suggest reconsidering this. I calculated that if a rich group like PETA did it we could reach about 250,000,000 of the USA 300,000,000 estimated population with just ONE years income/donations. No reason why we should have so much ignorance still. This is time sensative since big businesses are catching on and will compete for the ad space raising costs.

Mercy for Animals, Vegfund and Humane League Philly have done it as well to good success, but much more needs to be done along with vegan outreach college leafleting.
