A dozen of these new billboards go up today in San Francisco, Boston, and Los Angeles!

If you’re already vegan (and we hope you are!), you’ve probably noticed that most billboards aren’t targeted toward you. We see lots of ads for meaty fast food chains—or sometimes a nearby zoo or marine park—and while these billboards certainly don’t dictate our purchasing habits, they are hard to ignore.

Farm Animal Rights Movement has long tried to take back some of this ad space on buses, television, and billboards and use it instead to promote compassionate choices.

In the past year alone, FARM has run a dozen billboards in different major cities in the United States. In anticipation of Earth Day later this month, today we posted 12 new billboards in San Francisco, Boston and Los Angeles to encourage drivers to offset their car’s carbon footprint when it comes to mealtime.

FARM supporter and activist Lisa Soldavini told the FARM Blog that she swears by the billboards. She raises money from friends and activists in the Bay Area to fund billboards through FARM and is in the process of posting her third in Santa Rosa, CA.

“I think billboards are one of the most effective ways of getting the message out to people because so many people see them,” Soldavini said. “There were two people just that I know of who have gone vegan from the two billboards I did in Santa Rosa. Even if they don’t go vegan, it plants the seed.”

Our billboards have a strong history of success; with each one being viewed by tens of thousands, the message piques the curiosity of drivers while they sit in traffic. Of course there’s no way to tell exactly how many people our billboards reach, but we can tell you that when we put new ones up, we receive a surge of requests for vegan starter kits!
